The essential lavandin oil Grosso is obtained by steam distillation of the fresh inflorescences of Lavandin (Lavandula hybrida). The essential lavandin oil Grosso is a slightly mobile, yellowish liquid. It has a characteristic, fresh and floral smell. The essential lavandin oil Grosso dissolves well in alcohol (1:4,70% ethanol), vegetable oils and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. Main components are linalool, pine isomers and linalyl acetate. Geraniol is also present in smaller amounts.
The physical effect of the essential lavendin oil Grosso is very similar to that of real lavender oil, only the calming effect of the real lavender is missing. In the case of rheumatic pain, it is analgesic when applied as a rub-in. In the case of pathological itching (pruritis) it counteracts this and can counteract inflammation of the affected skin areas by its simultaneous anti-inflammatory property.
