INCI: Sodium Levulinate, Sodium Anisate
Cosphaderm® Sodium LAAS is a water-soluble mixture of sodium anisate and sodium levulinate with a strong antimicrobial effect against bacteria, yeasts and moulds as well as skin-caring properties. To prevent the two salts from separating, it is produced in a spray-drying process.
An aqueous mixture of the acids with glycerine and water has been available for a long time and is also easy to use, but has the disadvantage that the concentration of active ingredients is low.
The water solubility of Cosphaderm® Sodium LAAS is 15 times higher than the recommended application concentration. Compared to the aqueous mixture, the concentration of active substances is 400% higher. This reduces the application concentration by 1/4.
To keep antimicrobial activity and solubility in perfect balance, the optimum pH range for Cosphaderm® Sodium LAAS is between 5.3 and 6.0. It is very well tolerated and is also suitable for sensitive skin and baby products.
Incorporation:
Add 1% Cosphaderm® Sodium LAAS to the water phase, continue formulation and adjust the pH value in the final step.
Formulation type: O/W, W/O, water-based, surfactant-based, anhydrous
(Neither ingredient is listed as a preservative in the European Cosmetics Regulation, nor are their use concentrations limited).
