Ceramide Complex is a skin-identical lipid concentrate for improved skin moisturisation and protection. It is ideal for mature, dry and sensitive skin. Ceramide-Complex is a concentrated formulation consisting of a multilamellar (membrane) system that resembles the structure of the lipid barrier in the stratum corneum. Ceramide-Complex consists of a blend of different types of ceramides, non-animal cholesterol, free fatty acids and phytosphingosine, making it an ideal ingredient for personal care products with unique restorative capabilities.
Ceramide Complex is dispersible in water and can be cold processed.

Production of O/W emulsions:
Ceramide-Complex can be added to the water phase (up to 80°C) before the homogenisation step or during the lukewarm phase at temperatures below 40°C. The addition of Ceramide Complex to an existing formulation of an O/W emulsion can significantly reduce the viscosity. The reason for this is a rearrangement of the liquid crystalline structures. However, the emulsion is not necessarily less stable despite the lower viscosity.
To increase the viscosity, it is recommended to use consistency improvers such as cetearyl alcohol or glyceryl stearate.
As Ceramide - Complex contains an anionic emulsifier, cationic emulsifier systems should be avoided due to possible interactions.

Preparation of W/O emulsions:
Ceramide-Complex can be added to the water phase before the homogenisation step. Phase inversion may occur due to the anionic emulsifier in the ceramide complex. This can be prevented by using a sufficient quantity of suitable W/O emulsifiers. For W/O emulsion, we recommend a maximum application concentration of 2% ceramide complex.

3-5% Dry skin
3-5% Mature skin
3-15% Concentrate/Serum
